William V. Tamborlane, MD

Dr Tamborlane, the inventor of insulin pump therapy and recipient of numerous honors and awards from both government and private institutions, is a professor of pediatrics and chief of the Section of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Yale University School of Medicine; deputy director of the Yale General Clinical Research Center; and steering committee chair of the Diabetes Research in Children Network (DirecNet). He also directs the Yale Children’s Diabetes Program, which employs a multidisciplinary team approach to intensive therapy in the care of over 900 youths with type 1 diabetes
In addition to serving on CADRE’s Slide Kit and Publications subcommittees, he is involved in 10 National Institutes of Health studies in diabetes research. Dr Tamborlane’s activities for the American Diabetes Association include membership on the National Board of Directors. He is also a member of several professional societies, such as The American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society. He has edited Therapy of Diabetes Mellitus and Related Disorders (1994) and the Yale Guide to Children’s Nutrition (1997) and is on the editorial boards of Pediatric Diabetes and Countdown .
