About the editors . . .
William T. Cefalu was appointed associate executive director for clinical research at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University In Baton Rouge in 2003. Prior to that, Dr Cefalu served as director of the Clinical Trials Unit at the University of Vermont. Previously, he served as an associate professor of medicine and, for almost a decade, as director of the Diabetes Comprehensive Care and Research Programs at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. From 1995 to 1996, he served as president of the North Carolina affiliate of the American Diabetes Association. Dr Cefalu is currently principal Investigator or coinvestigator of nine major research and clinical studies and is conducting studies funded by both the American Diabetes Association and the National Institutes of Health. He serves on the editorial board of Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice and the American Journal of Physiology and is a reviewer for several journals. His publications include the first and second editions of Practical Guide to Diabetes Management, The CADRE Handbook of Diabetes Management, chapters In several books, and numerous journal articles and abstracts. Dr Cefalu has been a featured speaker at lectures and presentations around the world. John E. Gerich is a professor of medicine and director of the General Clinical Research Center at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Diabetes Association, The Endocrine Society, the International Diabetes Federation, and the Association of American Physicians and is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Diabetes and Its Complications, Endocrine Reviews, Diabetes, Nutrition and Metabolism, Journal of Physiology, and the American Journal of Medicine. Dr Gerich has published most recently in Ellenberg and Rlfkin''s Diabetes Mellitus (6th ed), Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology & Diabetes, Clinics in Laboratory Medicine, and Diabetes Care and has lectured around the world, recently on the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes. Derek LeRoith, qualified in Cape Town South Africa, is an Endocrinologlst and Diabetologist who has been on the faculty of the University of Cincinnatti where he ran the Diabetes teaching and clinical programs. He has interests In research in diabetes, particularly Type 2 diabetes. Dr. LeRoith has served on the National Board of the American Diabetes Association and presently serves on the board of the Endocrine Fellows Foundation. He is an editor of Reviews in Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders and a textbook on Diabetes. He serves on multiple editorial boards for various journals and consults for many biotech and pharmaceutical companies. |
